Marginal cord insertion simply means that instead of the umbilical cord attaching directly in the center of Natalie’s placenta, it is off to the side. Though very little medical concern has been shown for this condition, the doctors would like to have an additional set of measurements taken to show that the growth is on track. After measurements of everything from the circumference of Peanut’s head to the length of femur, chest, and everything in between, the current rate of development is at 51.4% (meaning that 48.6% of all babies at this point are ahead and 51.4% are behind — right on target…)
Dr. Collingham was in surgery today, so we had a chance to meet Dr. Traynor, his colleague in the office, so he checked everything out and was pleased with the results. During the ultrasound, our tech took some great pictures of Peanut’s profile (beautiful nose and mouth forming) and we got to see a quick game of peek-a-boo with hands in front of the eyes. We also learned that due to the hormone relaxin (that is its real name) that Peanut is very bendy right now and had at least one foot behind his/her head. Gymnastics or yoga may be in someone’s future… Peanut is now 2 pounds, 13 ounces.
Next ultrasound will be done in the OB’s office in about 6 weeks time, so until then, we will continue to check on the heartbeat, and yes — we made it through another appointment and the gender is still a surprise!
